Second place went to Tim Janus
eeeGLENDALE, Ariz. Cheap Jerseys Paypal . -- Mark Teixeiras stay with the U.S. team at the World Baseball Classic didnt last long. The Yankees slugger strained his right wrist while taking some light swings off a tee in the batting cage Tuesday, forcing him to withdraw from the tournament even before the Americans could play the Chicago White Sox in the first of their two scheduled exhibition games. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday night in Tampa, Fla., that Teixeira would be out a minimum of 10 days. X-rays were negative and an MRI revealed the strain, U.S. manager Joe Torre said. The Yankees said in a statement that Teixeira will be evaluated further Wednesday by team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad and hand specialist Dr. Melvin Rosenwasser. "It wasnt something he wouldnt be doing (with the Yankees)," Torre said after the U.S. played to a 4-4 tie with the White Sox. "It was just a freak thing." Torre said that there have already been conversations about who will replace Teixeira but no decisions have been made. The U.S. opens pool play Friday night against Mexico. "Im not throwing any names out," Torre said. "We certainly are looking to fill this spot as soon as possible, so you know Ill meet with my coaches. Well try to figure it out." Torre may not have been discussing options with reporters, but he did bring up White Sox slugger Paul Konerko with his manager, Robin Ventura. Konerko went 3 for 3 and drove in a run against the U.S. team in their exhibition game at Camelback Ranch. Other names that are likely to be discussed are the Brewers Prince Fielder, the Angels Mark Trumbo, Mets first baseman Ike Davis and the Red Soxs Mike Napoli, who can catch and play first. Torre said he couldnt say when the decision will be made because there are so many moving pieces, such as whether players are interested and their situation with their teams. "Were just taking names," Torre said. "But again, Tex was a switch-hitter, which was ideal for us, and left-handed wise, we have a couple switch-hitters and (Joe) Mauer. Otherwise, were pretty lopsided right-handed. So were going to have to see whats the best bet for us." The Rays Ben Zobrist started at first base for the U.S. team on Tuesday. Mauer can also play first base, while the Diamondbacks Willie Bloomquist also has experience there. Teixeira is the latest Yankees star to be injured this spring. Curtis Granderson broke his forearm on Feb. 24, and even general manager Brian Cashman has been hurt -- he broke his fibula and dislocated his right ankle while skydiving to raise awareness for the Wounded Warriors Project. Torre said the injury to Teixeira was particularly disappointing because the Yankees star had been so excited about playing. Teixeira actually broached playing for the U.S. when he saw Torre at a fundraising dinner in New York City shortly after Hurricane Sandy. "I hadnt picked a first baseman yet and I just happened to be at a banquet with Tex," Torre said. "He mentioned the WBC and I said, Are you interested? And he said, Yeah, if you need me, Im interested. ... That was the night, basically, he knew he was coming to us." Torre, an MLB executive vice-president, said hes sensitive to the risk of injury that comes with playing in the tournament. But he also made clear that the injury happened while Teixeira was going through his normal routine, and not as he was taking part in the competition. "If they want to find something wrong, they can use that," Torre said. "I certainly feel bad for Tex, but its one of those things, it just seems like its unavoidable. ... You never want to wish a thing like this upon any player, especially here in spring training." Cheap Jerseys Wholesale . The 28-year-old San Jose, Calif., man nicknamed "Jaws" scarfed down 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes in the sweltering summer heat to take home US$10,000 and the mustard yellow belt. He bested his main rival by 16 dogs. "I feel good, it was a great win," Chestnut said after the contest, adding he wished he could have eaten a record number of hot dogs for the audience. "I tried my best. Im looking forward to next year already." Second place went to Tim Janus of New York with 52 hot dogs, who received $5,000. Third place went to Patrick Bertoletti of Chicago with 51, who won $2,500. Chestnut was neck-and-neck with competitors during the first half of the contest, but he pulled ahead in the remaining minutes, choking down dog after dog, while other competitors slowed as the clock wound down. "Im happy to come out with the win," he said. Sonya Thomas, of Alexandria, Va., downed 45 wieners to win the womens competition. She reached her goal of eating 45 in the time limit -- her age -- and took home her own pink champions belt and $10,000. Thomas, known as the "Black Widow" of competitive eating, won last year as well, the first time a separate contest was held for women. Juliet Lee, of Germantown, Md., took second place with 33 and won $5,000. Lee also won second place last year. Third place went to Michelle Lesco, of Tuscon, Ariz., who received $2,500 for downing 25 1/2. Thomas said she started to feel sick while eating but kept pushing so she could win the title. "There is a limit so I have to fight," she said. Thomas said next year shes going to beat her record again and eat 46. Cheap NFL Jerseys. "Because Im going to be 46 next year," she said. The Nathans Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest has been a city tradition for 97 years. Tens of thousands of spectators gather to gawk as contestants shimmy, slither and bounce as they dip hot dogs in water and cram them down their throats. For some, its a painful reminder of excess -- especially as the U.S. battles a growing obesity problem. The American Medical Association opposes competitive eating, saying its harmful to the human body. But the competitive eaters are quite trim. Chestnut is over six feet tall and a muscly 218 pounds, and Thomas weighed in at barely 100 pounds. Hot dogs, though, arent the healthiest of choices. In addition to beef, they include salt and various food additives. Chestnuts total dog count was equal to more than 20,000 calories. This year, the animal rights group Mercy For Animals staged a protest against eating meat, with signs that read "Choose Vegetarian." Chestnut is now tied with his former rival, Takeru Kobayashi, for consecutive wins. The slim Japanese champ held the record for hot dog eating from 2001 to 2007, when he was unseated by Chestnut. But two years ago, after refusing to sign an exclusive contract with Major League Eating, the food equivalent of the NFL, he was banned from competition. He showed up anyway, wearing a T-shirt that said "Free Kobi," rushed the stage and was arrested, but charges were later dropped. Last year, the Japanese native nicknamed the "Tsunami" held an unofficial contest from a rooftop on ritzy Fifth Avenue, eating near a giant plasma TV airing the official competition live. He was out of the public eye Wednesday. ' ' '

Plays the game in a controlled
eeeNBA Hoops open up this week! Love it! No better time to hang out indoors at the arena and/or in front of your TV set and enjoy another season of action.Wholesale Jerseys From China . Stay warm and dry and most importantly, safe as we deal with Hurricane Sandy bearing down on us here on a Monday morning. Some quick thoughts. 1. JAMES HARDEN TRADE: A sign of things to come in the NBA with a much more punitive Luxury Tax on the horizon. Teams will have to make difficult and in this case proactive decisions on whether they want to tie huge dollars up into their top two or three players in a small market environment with the major hit of a significant Tax hit and minimal wiggle room to improve your team on other fronts. Tough call for Oklahoma City GM Sam Presti but I think he did the right thing. He made his best offer that would allow his franchise the ability to still function in a prudent economic sense for the short and long term and was rejected by Harden. Either youre in or youre out. Time to move on and get the best deal you can before the value decreases. I still think the Thunder will be a very good team in the West. The Lakers have the potential to be the best here and with this move I now put OKC with the likes of San Antonio, Denver, the L.A. Clippers and Memphis. Of the latter four I mention, I still consider OKC the best of that bunch and a clear second but the margin of error and bench scoring boost and skill level just diminished somewhat. Kevin Martin and Jeremy Lamb will be good players for OKC but Harden is in another class as far as efficiency and knack for making winning plays. Ill tell you what though, Sam Presti never shies away from the big call. We saw it with Jeff Green to the Celtics and we see it here again. 2. MIKE DUNLEAVY, JR. (Bucks): Watched him last week when he was in town to play the Raptors and I must say that every time I see him, he impresses me with his level of understanding of how to influence the game as a second unit player. He does a wonderful job of moving without the ball and is terrific setting his man up and utilizing screens. Plays the game in a controlled and effective fashion. Knows what he can and cant do and plays within himself. Is he a star? Far from it, but I think any coach would love to have him coming off their bench. He is the son of a former player and coach, Mike Dunleavy, Sr., so you can clearly see that hes spent a lot of time around the game and is a Gym Rat. He plays the game right and the team comes first. 3. DAVID STERN: Congrats. Wonderful run. Warm and fuzzy? No, far from it. He could turn the charm on and off with the best of them. Nobodys fool, thats for sure. A polarizing figure to say the least. He took the NBA from the depths of a league that was perceived to be on the verge of collapse with its NBA Finals on tape delay and numerous image problems, to a league that is economically healthy and in high demand worldwide. His leadership was masterful. Perfect? Far from it. But when you look at 28-plus years in any job, youll have the pros and the cons. At the end of the day the bottom line is that the NBA is a far better league than it was 28-plus years ago and hes a big reason why due to his vision. Every player, coach, executive, broadcaster, owner and any other NBA staff member should be thankful that he led the league to where it is today compared to where it was when he took over. Were all better for it. Is the game perfect? No. There are lots of issues that Im sure new boss Adam Silver will have to deal with when he takes over but hes in a much better spot than Stern was over 28 years ago - thats for sure. 4. TORONTO RAPTORS (40-42): I like the way things are headed with this team. Head Coach Dwane Casey and his staff are very good. Talent level is better. Depth and internal competition is much improved as well. Are they capable of overcoming having to play in the toughest division in basketball and play Boston, Brooklyn, New York and Philly (all predicted to be playoff teams) a total of 16 times? Are they capable of handling a difficult early road-heavy schedule with 15 of their first 22 games coming away from the Air Canada Centre? Will Andrea Bargnani and DeMar DeRozan in particular take that next step and make winning plays and do whatever it takes to get their team over the hump? Their numbers have looked good over the years but the only number that matters now is the number of wins. Its time to take the next step as a franchise and for these two players in particular - the investment has been made in them - time for the return. I truly believe that this team can contend for a playoff spot and a lot will have to happen in their favour to get there. They have to stay relatively injury-free and other teams need to have some issues with injuries to open up some spots - Chicago, Philadelphia, New York and Atlanta come to mind as teams that are vulnerable - but will 40 wins get the Raptors in? Not sure but the vibe and direction with this franchise is changing. They might be a year away but theyre on the right path. Encouraged and optimistic long-term. Short term - a much more competitive team that should be a whole lot more entertaining. Sure beats the past four years of utter frustration. 5. NBA FINALS: (MIAMI and LAKERS): OK. Go ahead and criticize me for not thinking outside of the box. Ive tried like crazy to do that but I keep coming back to these two teams. Both should be a fascinating watch this year and in my opinion, if both stay healthy, if theyre not in the Finals, shame on them. Talent level and star power are there in bunches and over the course of the next six-plus months both will grow into different and better teams poised to square off in June. Might be a boring pick but cant seem to get my head around anyone else at this point. Enjoy the season! Cheap Jerseys. The team has been fined $400,000 and is losing five draft picks as a result. Albert Pujols didnt have to wait nearly
eee ARLINGTON, Texas -- Albert Pujols didnt have to wait nearly as long for his first home run this year. He had to wait awhile for another chance to swing the bat, though. Then he homered again. Pujols went deep in his only two plate appearances that werent intentional walks to offset another tough day for Josh Hamilton in his second game back in Texas, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Rangers 8-4 Saturday. Exactly a month earlier than he hit his first homer in his debut season for the Angels last year, Pujols drove a two-run shot to the lawn in centre field off Matt Harrison in the first inning and watched Hamilton strike out twice behind him after taking two of three intentional walks. The next -- and last -- time the Rangers let him swing, Pujols homered off reliever Jason Frasor in the sixth. "I think it was a smart move," said Hamilton, who is 1 for 20 with 10 strikeouts after signing a $125 million, five-year contract. "Albert was dominating today, obviously. If I was in their situation, I would have done the same thing." Mark Trumbo also had a two-run homer in the first against Harrison (0-2), who gave up eight hits and five runs in five innings after losing to Houston on opening night. "The biggest thing was that first inning," said Harrison, who has an 8.44 ERA through two starts. "The balls I left up in the zone were hit hard, and it just led to a four-spot in that first and put us in a big hole." Mitch Moreland and Ian Kinsler hit third-inning home runs against Tommy Hanson (1-0), who gave up three runs and six hits over six innings in his Angels debut after arriving in an off-season trade with Atlanta. The boos were loud again for Hamilton, who said before the game that his wife had to call over security during Fridays home opener for Texas because fans were shouting insults and obscenities at their family. There were no major incidents, and Hamilton said his family planned to return for the remaining two games. Hamilton, a five-time All-Star with the Rangers who went 0 for 4 in his return Friday, walked in the first inning ahead of Trumbos opposite-field home run to right. First base was open the next two times Pujols came up, so Rangers manager Ron Washington chose to pitch to his former slugger. Hamilton struck out both times on breaking pitches in the dirt. He flied out to left in the sixth and again in the eighth after another intentional walk to Pujols. "Hamilton is not swinging the bat well, we had some left-handers out there and we just went for the matchup each time," Washington said. "Each time we didnt walk (Pujols), you seen what happened." In his return to Texas, Hamilton is 0 for 8 with a walk and four strikeouts, and isnt hitting the ball very hard when he does make contact. "If I was somewhere else, the same thing would be going on. Itll get better," Hamilton said. Pujols, also playing under the weight of a huge new contract at this time a year ago, didnt hit his first homer of 2012 until May 6 at Toronto. Odds were pretty good he would go deep at Rangers Ballpark, where he has four multihomer games in his past 15, including a three-homer outburst in Game 3 of the 2011 World Series with St. Louis. After a slow start last year, Pujols knows what Hamilton is going through. "Were only five games into the season. Let the guy settle down," Pujols said. "Lets see where we are a month from now. You guys said that last year about me and I proved a lot of people wrong." Peter Bourjos greeted Frasor with a home run to start the sixth, and two outs later Pujols fouled off a pair of two-strike pitches before sending a fastball into the seats in left field. "We know its a long season, but you dont want to wait too long," Pujols said. "You want to get it going early. This is a big series and we have a tough month." Moreland broke an 0-for-13 spell to start the season and was the first batter to reach against Hanson when he hit a 435-foot home run halfway up the upper deck in right field in the third inning. Kinsler followed two batters later with a homer to left. "I was just trying not to jump up and down running around the bases because I finally got a hit," said Moreland, who went hitless with two strikeouts in his other three at-bats. "Its definitely not the start you want. But man, weve got a long ways to go." Nelson Cruz homered inside the left-field foul pole in the ninth off Angels closer Ernesto Frieri, who was pitching because he hadnt appeared since getting the save on opening day Monday in Cincinnati. NOTES: Pujols made his first start of the season at DH, and Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he planned to give Hamilton an occasional break from defence as well. ... The Rangers infield committed its first error after 77 clean chances to start the season when 3B Adrian Beltre booted a grounder in the seventh. ... Hanson allowed the fourth-most homers in the NL last season (27) and gave up four in 18 1-3 innings during spring training. ... "Ive got to impress my son, the first game he watches," Bosh said. Someday, the kid is going to love this story. On the same day his wife gave birth to a son they named Jackson, the All-Star had nine and 10 rebounds in Miamis 87-70 victory over the New York Knicks to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the teams Eastern Conference first-round series. Bosh arrived at the arena at 6:31 p.m., just 29 minutes before the scheduled tipoff, and didnt miss a moment. "Its just an amazing thing," Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. The whirlwind started Wednesday night, not long after Bosh tossed down his luggage and flipped on the television in his room at the team hotel. He was going to get some dinner with a friend when his wife Adrienne called with the word: Come home. Dinner was cancelled. Bosh got to the airport and onto a private jet that whisked him to Miami just in time for the birth. The particulars were unclear; Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said the baby arrived at 3 a.m., Bosh said it was closer to 4 a.m., and the proud papa acknowledged that he had no idea how long the baby was or what he weighed. All irrelevant details. Boshs wife and son were happy and healthy, and soon the plan was hatched to get him back to New York for Game 3. "A tremendous effort to get here," Heat forward Udonis Haslem said. "Man, thats what its about. Sacrifice. Itd been easy for him to stay home but he got here and he made it about the team and he helped us get this one tonight." When his plane touched back down in the New York area around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Bosh had flown more than 3,600 miles in a span of about 24 hours. As he scurried into the locker room to get taped, dressed and ready, Boshs teammates broke into a cheer. "Hes very excited," Spoelstra said before the game. "While he may not be fully rested, he has an incredible amount of excitement right now."t; Bosh played 37 minutes, and his 10 rebounds were a team-high.dddddddddddd "Thats the easy part. Thats my job," Bosh said. "That was the easiest part of the day, just to go out and play basketball. Once we got going, I kind of put it in my mind that I was just going to focus on the game." Adrienne Bosh posted a photo of her husband boarding the Miami-bound charter jet to a social media account late Wednesday night with the caption of, "Thank God for private flights...Hurry home Baby." Everything seemed a blur after that. Bosh didnt sleep on the ride south, then caught about four hours Thursday morning and two more on the plane bringing him back to New York. He said he returned with his wifes permission, and with doctors and nurses urging him to play as well. "She said it was all right," Bosh said. "She said, Were healthy, were fine, we have more than enough help." Many of Boshs teammates can relate to what hes going through, juggling family responsibility with the demands of the playoffs. Shane Battiers wife delivered a girl last season while Memphis -- Battiers former team -- was facing San Antonio in the post-season. Mike Millers wife gave birth during last seasons Heat playoff run, and LeBron James now-fiancee Savannah Brinson delivered their second child during Clevelands appearance in the 2007 finals. James and Wade said they expected Bosh would get back in time for the game. "It can be physically draining because you dont get much sleep while youre going through that whole process," James said. "But as far as mentally draining, I think the best way to deal with it is make sure the familys OK, make sure his wife of course is OK, and this is a great way to get away from it, to come back here and play the game of basketball." As he undressed at his locker after the game, Bosh was asked if hed ever had a better day in his life. He didnt hesitate before answering. "No. I have not," Bosh said. "I have not." ' ' '

Calgary Flames look for a rare road
eee(Sports Network) - The Calgary Flames look for a rare road win this evening when they wrap up a three-game road trip with the Los Angeles Kings. Cheap Jerseys . The Flames sit last in the West with 22 points, leaving them six back of a playoff spot. They have lost four of their past six, including the first two of a three-game road trip. Mike Cammalleri and Alex Tanguay scored for the Flames, who have lost five in a row on the road and sit at just 3-5-2 as the visiting team this season. Matt Stajan had an assist on Tanguays goal to reach 300 career points. "We dont back down. We didnt feel like we got pushed around. We competed, but we were outplayed tonight. It was in the second period they took the game over," Calgarys Jarome Iginla said. Making his third straight start since missing 13 games in a row with a knee injury, Miikka Kiprusoff was pulled in the third period after allowing six goals on 22 shots. Joey McDonald stopped the two shots he faced in relief. While the Kings offense feels confident every time Carter touches the puck, Tanguay continues to be opportunistic. The 33-year-old has seven goals this season on just 28 shots. The Flames have lost three straight to the Kings, including the first two of three meetings this season. Los Angeles has swept its season series with Calgary only once before, taking all four meetings in 1999-00. The Kings are 7-1-1 in the previous nine encounters overall. Kings forward Jeff Carter will look to extend his goal-scoring run to five straight games this evening. Carter has scored in each game of this homestand, which he began with his fifth career hat trick in last Mondays win over Nashville. He has scored once in each of the last three games, giving him 13 goals over his past 13 games and a Western Conference-leading 17 on the season. That is two back of Tampa Bays Steven Stamkos for the NHL lead. The winger netted a power-play tally in Saturdays 6-2 win over Calgary, helping the Kings improve to 3-1 on their homestand and 10-3-0 in their last 13. Carter has been a big part of that run and is bringing some excitement to Los Angeles offense. "Every time he has a puck, it doesnt matter where he shoots it from, it could be from the neutral zone, I feel like the fans expect it to go in," said Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick. "So hes playing great hockey for us. You know hes scoring big goals and hes one of the leaders on the team and we need him to do that and hes one of the biggest reasons why we are in the standings where we are right now." Quick made 17 saves in the win over the Flames, while Justin Williams had a goal and two assists. Anze Kopitar and Colin Fraser both finished with a goal and an assist, while Slava Voynov notched a career-high three assists for the second time in four games. Dustin Penner added an assist in a fifth game in a row. Los Angeles current run has helped it jump into a tie for second in the Pacific Division with 28 points, 11 back of first-place Anaheim. AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Denny Hamlin spent nearly two months of the off-season in the Scottsdale area, hoping to get away from racing for a while, reinvigorate himself for the 2012 season. It seemed to do wonders, leading to a win at a place where he had one of the biggest disappointments of his career. Hamlin pulled away when NASCARs best closer ran out of gas and then had to sweat out his own fuel mileage before completing a confidence-boosting win at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday. "Its a little bit of satisfaction there, for sure," Hamlin said. "Its a bittersweet track." It was, in fact, the site of one of his worst memories as a driver. Hamlin seemed to have a comfortable lead over Jimmie Johnson in the penultimate race of the 2010 Chase when his title hopes were derailed by a fuel strategy that backfired. Forced to pit for fuel late in the race, he scrambled just to finish 19th while Johnson was fifth. Hamlin left the desert dejected after his lead was trimmed to 15 points and ended up losing the title the next week to Johnson, who earned his record fifth straight Sprint Cup championship. Hamlin then had bit of a hangover to start the 2011 season and never really clicked, ending up ninth in the Sprint Cup standings. Thats where his return to the desert comes in. Trying to get away from the constant race chatter around the Charlotte, N.C., area, Hamlin rented a house in Paradise Valley for seven weeks during the off-season. He came back strong to start this season, finishing fourth at the Daytona 500 with new crew chief Darian Grubb after qualifying 31st. Hamlin started 13th at PIR and briefly led a couple of times before beating Kevin Harvick off the line after a caution with 59 laps left. Harvick, NASCARs best finisher, put a scare into him toward the end, but ran out of gas on the final lap. Hamlin was concerned about gas as well, but had just enough for a celebratory burnout after his 18th career win and his first lead in the points since dejectedly leaving Phoenix in 2010. "When I come back here (and win), it puts 2011 to rest," Hamlin said. "Its a year Id soon like to forget and now we can focus on winning a championship." Hamlin had to hold off NASCARs version of a closer to get it. Harvick, who won three races at the finish last season, had Hamlin lined up for another last-second victory. But as he closed in on the No. 11s bumper, Harvicks car turned off. His team had been concerned about having enough fuel to get to the end and just missed it, the No. 29 coasting over the line just ahead of Greg Biffle for second. "Those are the types of things youve got to do to take the chances and when youre close enough to at least coast around, they did a good job," Harvick said. Johnson did the best he could after his right rear wheel started shaking midway through the race. The five-time Sprint Cup champion led early in the race, but had to pit twice during a caution because of a vibration and returned to the track in 25th. Wholesale Jerseys Cheap. Johnson clawed his way back toward the front to finish fourth, a nice result after he was docked 25 points for his car failing inspection the first day of Speedweeks and wrecked two laps into the Daytona 500. "Well take it," said Johnson, still 71 points behind Hamlin. "Im not really satisfied. I really felt like we had a car to win the race with. Unfortunately, things didnt work out there. We had a little hiccup early in the race, but we still rebounded back and got a strong finish." Johnson wasnt the only one feeling a little pride. Grubb led Johnson to a victory in the 2006 Daytona 500 with crew chief Chad Knaus suspended and guided Tony Stewart to his third Sprint Cup title last year. But just a week after winning the title, Grubb was fired by Stewart, who later hired Steve Addington away from Penske Racing to serve as his crew chief. Grubb landed with Joe Gibbs Racing and seems to have clicked right away with Hamlin. "I guess you could say its a little bit of vindication, but I really dont think that way, I just try to take the high road," Grubb said. "I feel like I came into a very good situation and were building a heck of a team with the No. 11 car." The teams didnt have much time to prepare after one of the most bizarre Daytona 500s ever. Weather pushed the start of the race to Monday night and Juan Pablo Montoyas did-that-really-happen crash into a safety truck during a caution led to a two-hour delay of flames and suds as crews tried to clean the track with laundry detergent. Adding to the long weekend, many drivers werent able to get home after the race because the airports in North Carolina were shut down due to bad weather. Six days later, there were no delays, no jet dryer crashes, no in-race tweeting. Just a track that got slicker as the weekend wore on. PIR was resurfaced after the 2011 spring race and held up well in the fall. The grip was decent for the early practice session Friday, but the track became tougher as the temperatures rose Saturday and again for the race. With the sun shining and the temperature in the 80s, drivers fought for traction all day, wobbling and sliding all over. Kasey Kahne slid into the wall early and Paul Menard did the same after A.J. Allmendinger got loose in front of him near the midpoint of the race. Ryan Newman, in a backup car because of a practice session crash, was knocked from sixth when Carl Edwards got loose with about 60 laps left and Brad Keselowski dropped back when he got a little squirrely a few laps later. "It was definitely slick for sure," said Kyle Busch, who finished sixth. Not for Hamlin, allowing him to get a grip on a memory he wanted to erase. ' ' '

Atlanta Braves knocked around Cole Hamels
eee ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves knocked around Cole Hamels in the opener, then chased Roy Halladay in the fourth inning on Wednesday night. Nate Robinson White Jersey . They have six homers through two games against the Philadelphia Phillies. Jason Heyward just loves what he is seeing so far. "Jumping out early is huge," he said. "Its not always going to happen, but its nice to do and nice to give your pitcher that cushion." Heyward, Justin Upton and rookie Evan Gattis homered, leading Paul Maholm and the Braves to a 9-2 victory over the Phillies. Freddie Freeman had three RBIs and leadoff hitter Andrelton Simmons scored twice for Atlanta, which jumped in front for the second straight game and never trailed. Upton belted a two-run shot in the first to give him a pair of homers in his first two games with the Braves. Halladay (0-1), who struggled with a sore shoulder last season and had a difficult spring training, gave up five runs and six hits in 3 1-3 innings. The two-time Cy Young Award winner struck out nine, but dropped to 0-4 with an 8.00 ERA in his last seven starts against Atlanta. "I felt good," Halladay said. "Felt good in the bullpen, felt good on the mound. Obviously horrible conditions to pitch in. That made it no fun, but thats not an excuse for not being able to get ahead of guys and do it consistently and put guys away quicker." The game was played in a chilly, steady drizzle, but the conditions hardly affected Maholm (1-0), who allowed six hits in 5 2-3 scoreless innings. He struck out six and walked one. "It was good," Maholm said. "Obviously, in the first start of the year, not the greatest conditions, but I felt comfortable." Gattis led off the fourth inning of his first major league game with a drive to left. Maholm struck out, but Halladays night was over after he issued a walk to Simmons. Raul Valdes came in and walked the next two batters before Freeman hit a bases-clearing double to make it 7-0. Freeman has driven in six of Atlantas 16 runs in the first two games. Maholm struggled last year against Philadelphia with an 8.64 ERA in two starts. But the left-hander stranded runners in scoring position in three of the first four innings in his first start of 2013. Cory Gearrin replaced Maholm with a runner on first in the sixth. He walked one before striking out Erik Kratz. The Phillies were just 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position. "I thought (Maholm) did a terrific job," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "He mixed his pitches well and he did a nice job. Gave us a great opportunity to win the ballgame." Juan Francisco also singled in a run in the first as Atlanta quickly built a 3-0 lead. Halladay recorded his first eight outs on strikeouts, but he needed 79 pitches to make it through the first three innings. He was trying for win No. 200 and a spot alongside New York Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte as the only active pitchers to be 100 games over .500. Halladay was upset with himself for making such an early exit. "Id rather get beat 20-0 and pitch eight innings than pitch 3 1-3," he said. "Thats got to change." Chase Utley had a two-run double in the seventh for Philadelphia. Utley appeared to score a third run, but home plate umpire Mike Everitt called Michael Young out for runners interference at first and the inning ended. Heyward tacked on a two-run homer against Jonathan Papelbon in the eighth, but the Atlanta right fielder thought the key was making Halladay work. "We did wear him down," Heyward said. "We did make sure that we got some pitches to hit and we hit them hard." NOTES: The Braves struck out 16 times. ... Freeman has reached in six of his eight plate appearances this season. ... DALLAS -- Paul George and Indiana Pacers went on an offensive surge in the third quarter to sink the Dallas Mavericks. However, all Pacers coach Frank Vogel could talk about was his top-ranked defence. George had 24 points and eight rebounds and the Pacers broke open a close game in the third quarter to beat the Mavericks 103-78 on Thursday night. With the game tied at half, the Pacers outscored the Mavericks 34-17 in the third. George had eight points in a 20-5 run to open the second half. Vogel said his teams defence allowed Indiana to pull away in the second half. "Our defensive effort keeps getting better and better," Vogel said. "Im very impressed with how dialed in our guys are and how disciplined theyre playing on the defensive end." The Central Division-leading Pacers won their fourth straight and have a half-game lead for the second-best record in the Eastern Conference. Indiana is 2-0 on a four-game Western Conference trip. The Pacers beat the Houston Rockets 100-91 on Wednesday night. "It was great win," George said. "For us to come out and match their same intensity was huge, especially on their floor." Dirk Nowitzki scored 21 points for Dallas, which remained 1 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Lakers in the race for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. "Having a dud like this on our home floor is definitely disheartening," Dallas centre Elton Brand said. Nowitzki and five of his teammates have grown out beards since early February and vowed not to shave until the Mavericks (35-37) got back to .500. Those unshaven Mavericks will have to put their razors away for at least a few more days as Indiana denied Dallas a chance to even its record for the first time since Dec. 12. Pacers centre Roy Hibbert didnt want the Mavericks to pull out the clippers just yet. "We heard something about them wanting to shave or doing something like that," Hibbert said. Hibbert had 16 points and 11 rebounds one night after scoring a season-high 28 against Houston, and Tyler Hansbrough added 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench for Indiana, which announced before the game that former All-Star forward Danny Granger will have season-ending left knee surgery. David West scored seven points in his return for the Pacers after missing six games with a lower back strain. The Pacers outrebounded the Mavericks 55-34 and scored 15 second chance points. Dallas suffered its 11th loss of 20 points or more this season. "It was a wipeout for us as far as the rebounding," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. "Thats been a challenge for us." George Hill hit a 3-pointer to start the second half and break a 41-all halftime tie. George hit a 21-footer to push Indianas lead to 49-42. Indiana closed the 20-5 run with a couple of layups from Hill and a jumper from Ian Mahinmi to make it 61-46 midway through the third. George scored 13 points in the third. He finished 10 of 17 from the field and had six assists and three steals. Mahinmi closed the third with a dunk off a pass from Orlando Johnson as the Pacers outscored the Mavericks 34-17 in the third. Vince Carter had 14 points and Darren Collison added 10 or Dallas. The Mavericks shot 38.6 per cent (32 of 83) against the NBAs top-scoring defence. Dallas, which got no closer than 10 points in the fourth, dropped to 3-2 on its six-game homestand. Larry Bird is calling it quits
eee INDIANAPOLIS -- Larry Bird is calling it quits with the Indiana Pacers. Wholesale Jerseys China . Bird, perhaps the most respected and beloved basketball figure in a state obsessed with the sport, will leave his job as the Pacers president of basketball operations at the end of August. He spent four years building the team into an Eastern Conference contender and was this seasons NBA executive of the year, but is instead moving on after saying just a month ago that he was willing to stay. Bird said health issues were among the reasons for his departure. He said he may need shoulder surgery and cited longstanding issues with his back. "I just think its time," he said at a news conference Wednesday as the team announced an executive reorganization. Bird said was prepared to leave last year with the organization headed in the right direction. He and owner Herb Simon had discussed his eventual departure for a few years. Bird also said that payroll issues with the small-market Pacers did not affect his decision. "(Simon) knows to get to the next level were going to spend some money," Bird said. "Every time I went to Herb about a player or about money to spend, he questioned it. And he should. At the end of the day, he always said go ahead and do what you have to do to make this team better. Thats the support you need. ... Were going to spend money." Bird said he plans to take a year off and get healthy before he evaluates his situation. He did not rule out a return to basketball. Owning a team used to be a goal, but he said he no longer has that interest. Simon said he had hoped to keep Bird, who will stay on for the draft when the Pacers are scheduled to pick No. 26 overall in the first round Thursday night. His contract expires Aug. 30. "I feel sad (with) the announcement that Larrys going to be leaving us," said Simon, who continued to talk to Bird about staying as late as Monday. "Larry could have stayed here as long as he wants, but he has his own reasons. The Pacers organization appreciates everything hes done for us in his nine years. We wish him the very best and hope that we can still be associated with him in the coming years." The 55-year-old Bird was the Pacers coach from 1997-2000, taking the team to its only NBA Finals appearance that final year before he returned to the teams front office in 2003. He took full control as president of basketball decisions after the 2007-08 season, when Donnie Walsh left to become the New York Knicks president. Walsh is returning as the Pacers president. Kevin Pritchard, the director of player personnel, is being promoted to general manager, replacing David Morway, who resigned Tuesday. Walsh said he wont travel the country to evaluate collegiate prospects, leaving that to Pritchard. Simon first seriously talked to Walsh about the job two weeks ago. "It was a good fit," Walsh said. "When Larry decided to go, it was easy for Herb to look at me and I felt natural in coming back here. I had gotten used to, hey, maybe I wont do it again. So, I had to rethink that again. "(I would have been interested in another team) only if it was a real situation for me where I knew Id fit. Im not just throwing my name out for jobs. I wouldnt do that." Bird had said just a month ago that he wanted to stay and expressed interest in a three-year deal rather than the annual "handshake" agreements he had with Simon. It wasnt to be, and now the Pacers will look to continue their resurgence. Under Bird, the Pacers went 36-46 in 2008-09 and 32-50 in 2009-10 and then, two seasons ago, the Pacers were 17-27 when Bird fired coach Jim OBrien in what proved to be a spark. Interim coach Frank Vogel then took a young team with core players Danny Granger, Roy Hibbert, Tyler Hansbrough and Darren Collison and guided it to the playoffs. The Pacers challenged the Chicago Bulls before losing the first-round series 4-1. This year, Indiana beat Orlando easily in the first round before falling to eventual champion Miami in six games. Bird, of course, is as well known in Indiana as John Wooden or Bob Knight. The former Indiana State star from tiny French Lick won three MVP awards and three NBA titles during his Hall of Fame career with Boston. As the Pacers president, he took a franchise humbled by the brawl between Pacers players and Pistons fans in 2004, made a series of difficult trades to get rid of troublemakers, rebuilt through the draft and returned the Pacers to the Eastern Conference semifinals this season. It was Indianas deepest post-season run in seven years. The franchise with a tarnished image is now one of the leagues most promising teams despite its small-market status. Bird built the team the old-fashioned way -- by drafting players (Paul George and Hansbrough) and developing them through the team structure, making shrewd decisions to trade for others (George Hill and Collison) and finding affordable free agents (David West). The Pacers, well under the salary cap, are expected to be a significant player in free agency. Cheap Jerseys . -- Game-ending home runs in spring training are not a big deal. NFL Jerseys China . Italy had more of the possession, the better of the chances, and thoroughly deserved to advance to the semifinals at UEFA Euro 2012 with a penalty shootout win over England on Sunday. It certainly wasnt the highest quality match in the tournament, but there was no shortage of drama as England bowed out of the tournament in familiar fashion. Andrea Pirlo was once again outstanding for the Italians. He created the most attempts on goal of any player on the pitch, and had as many completed passes as the top three England players combined. Pirlo pulled the strings perfectly in the Italian midfield, and then when the pressure was really on, kept his cool during the penalties to chip the ball straight down the middle of Joe Harts goal. As former England midfielder Darren Anderton said on our broadcast, it was a performance that showed Pirlo is "pure class." Italy should have won the game in 90 minutes. Mario Balotelli had a couple of excellent chances while the Italians also hit the woodwork and forced a couple of good saves from Hart in the England goal. After a bright start from both sides, England struggled to create many opportunities and spent much of the game trying to soak up possession from the Azzuri. From the back, Italy looked strong. Led by Gigi Buffon who was equal to the task on the rare occasions he was called into action, but the Italians rarely looked troubled by Englands attack. Italys defence will face its toughest test yet when they come up against Germany in the semi-final in Warsaw on Thursday. As Italy moves on to Warsaw, England now heads home after crashing out of the tournament on a penalty shootout once again. It was the same scenario when they last appeared in the European Chaampionship Quarter Finals in 2004 when they were beaten by Portugal. Wholesale Jerseys Free Shipping. In fact, England has now lost six of seven penalty shootouts at major tournaments dating back to 1990. Englands side had nowhere near as much quality as Italy, but they deserve credit for fighting hard and defending well in order to take the match to extra time. Englands problems cannot be fixed overnight, but Roy Hodgson managed to get some decent performances out of the players he had available at the tournament. Theres a reason expectations were so low heading into the tournament. Englands off-pitch upheaval left little time for the new manager to prepare for the tournament, but he managed to get the players on side, playing for him and for each other. The togetherness amongst the group was one of the big plusses for England during the tournament. Hodgson deserves credit for Englands advancement to the Quarter Finals. He got the best he could out of the squad. England is a long way from being a contender at a major international tournament and lacks top level world class talent, but they should take pride in what they were able to achieve. England exits the tournament without having lost a game in regulation time. Roy Hodgson has now been in charge for six matches and is yet to be beaten (before penalties). Hodgson has proved to be a wise choice to be in charge of England. The player that was most impressive for England during the tournament was Steven Gerrard. He led by example and was the heartbeat of the team in midfield. His delivery from set pieces was outstanding and he ended EURO 2012 with three assists. Gerrard has always been a player that can be relied upon for club or country, and he proved that once against in the four matches he played in Ukraine. ' ' '

It didnt take long for Wade Redden
eeeST. Anthony Davis Jersey . LOUIS -- It didnt take long for Wade Redden to find work. The veteran defenceman has reached a deal in principle with the St. Louis Blues on a one-year contract worth US$800,000, pending a physical. The deal comes one day after the New York Rangers used their accelerated compliance buyout on Reddens contract, making him an unrestricted free agent. Redden has spent the past two seasons with Connecticut of the AHL after managing just five goals and 35 assists in 156 regular-season games with the Rangers over two seasons. He signed a six-year, $39 million free-agent deal with the Rangers in 2008 to leave Ottawa, where he was an all-star. The accelerated compliance buyout, approved in the new labour deal, means Redden will earn a pro-rated $3.341 million for this season plus two-thirds of the $5 million he was set to earn next season. In 994 career NHL games, the 35-year-old Redden has 106 goals and 344 assists. Also on Friday, the Blues released 35-year-old defenceman Colin White, who was brought in for a tryout earlier this week. White is three games shy of 800 over 12 NHL seasons. The Braves hope that trend continues on Friday when they host the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals in the first-ever one-game National League wild card game at Turner Field. "Its only one game," Braves outfielder Martin Prado said. "It can go real good or (stink). The only thing we can control there is to play the same game weve been playing all year." Under the new format the two wild card teams will play one game with the winner advancing to the NLDS and hosting the NL East champion Washington Nationals in the first two games of the best-of-five set starting Sunday. Atlantas epic collapse last September allowed the Cardinals to overcome a 9 1/2-game wild card deficit, paving the way for their 11th World Series title. This year, though, its been a different story for the Braves, who were 20-10 down the stretch and claimed the NLs first wild card spot with a 94-68 record. A big reason for that success has been the emergence of Medlen. Since making the conversion from reliever to starter in late July, Medlen has pitched to a 0.97 ERA and the team has won each of the past 23 games he has started dating back to May 29, 2010. "Its your goal to win the game, no matter how," Medlen said. "Like I said, this whole year its not me by myself. Ive given up four or five runs in a start and guys just pull it out for me. My name is in the books or whatever, but its a team thing. I didnt do it all by myself. Thats for sure." He was 10-1 overall this year with a 1.57 ERA. Medlen, who missed most of last season recovering from Tommy John surgery, has faced the Cardinals five times out of the bullpen, but this will be his first- ever start. However, St. Louis did reach him for three runs in 5 2/3 innings this season. "I dont think we could have gone wrong with (Tim Hudson or Medlen)," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Theyre good makeup guys and good guys that I think can handle that situation." The Braves will also have David Ross behind the plate rather than Brian McCann, who is dealing with a hamstring issue. "I think going forward, I think Mack will catch, obviously in a longer series, a five-game series or a seven-game series if we get that far," Gonzalez added. Medlen will be opposed by right-handed veteran Kyle Lohse, who was 16-3 this season with a 2.86 ERA in 33 starts this year. His .842 winning percentage was tops in the majors and he set a career high with 211 innings pitched and ranked eighth in the majors with a 2.86 ERA. Only two NL pitchers finished the year with mmore quality starts than Lohses 24. Colin Kaepernick Elite Jersey. "It feels real good to know that they trust me enough to go out there and pitch in a one-game playoff," Lohse said. "Thats something you dream about as a kid. Now I get to go do it. Ive had a good year. I feel like Ive done everything I could this year to help get us in this position. Ill do everything Ive been doing to help win on Friday." Lohse allowed a season-high five earned runs and nine hits in just five innings on May 29 at Turner Field in his only start against the Braves this year. "That was kind of a turning point for me that month," Lohse said. "I figured out some things that I did incorrectly that game. Ill make the adjustments I need to make and go out there and have a good plan." From that point on, though, Lohse won nine of his next 10 decisions and made 10 straight quality starts and only the New York Mets R.A. Dickey posted a lower ERA in the NL. It was a year of adjustments for the Cardinals, who went into this season with a new manager in Mike Matheny following the retirement of Tony La Russa, and without three-time NL MVP Albert Pujols, who bolted to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim as a free agent. St. Louis for the most part did not skip a beat, winning just two games less than last season, and still finished 88-74. Although, it wasnt quite the furious finish they needed last year, the Cardinals still won 12 of their final 16 games, but did not secure the second wild card spot until the second to last day of the season. The Braves have won five of the six games played against the Cardinals this season. "I dont think that has anything to do with the game on Friday, because its a different environment," Braves outfielder Michael Bourn said. "Theyll have the upper hand with the experience. But other than that, I think well be just fine. I think everybody in here is looking forward to it." This will mark the fourth postseason meeting between the Cardinals and Braves. St. Louis swept Atlanta in the NL Championships Series in 1982 and the NLDS in 2000. In 1996, the Braves won an NLCS matchup, 4-3, to advance to the World Series. The Braves have dropped six straight postseason series since winning a divisional playoff in 2001 and is 0-5 in elimination games at Turner Field. Lost a bit in the hoopla of the wild card contest is the fact that this could be the final game in the great career of Braves third baseman Chipper Jones, who announced in spring training that this would be his final season. Jones hit .287 this season - his highest mark since a league-leading .364 clip in 2008 - with 14 home runs and 62 RBI in 112 games. ' ' '

Melvin wants to be especially cautious
eee OAKLAND, Calif. -- As best as he can, Bob Melvin keeps his mind from wandering to what the upstart Oakland Athletics might accomplish by seasons end if they keep going like this. Josh Reddick insists it goes for him, too. Thats OK, everybody else is doing plenty of scoreboard watching for the As as this overachieving club tries to get back to the post-season for the first time in six years. In one impressive 10-day stretch, Oakland (76-57) is suddenly in a tie with the New York Yankees for the second-best record in the American League behind the two-time reigning AL champion Texas Rangers (79-54). "Its crazy," pitcher Brett Anderson said. "Who would have predicted that Sept. (2) that wed be tied with the Yankees for the same record? Everythings working right now -- offence, defence, pitching. When thats happening, special things are going to happen." Seth Smith hit a two-run homer, Stephen Drew hit a solo shot for his first clout since joining Oakland and the As beat the Boston Red Sox 6-2 on Sunday for their season-best ninth straight win. Anderson (3-0) won his third straight start since returning from a 14-month absence to recover from Tommy John surgery. Having him back is a big boost for the AL wild-card leading As down the stretch after they lost Bartolo Colon to a 50-game suspension Aug. 22. Reddick added a sacrifice fly and Yoenis Cespedes drove in a run with a groundout for the As. They have the clubs longest winning run since 10 in a row from June 8-18, 2006, in the last year they reached the playoffs. Oakland has 29 games left, including seven against Texas and all but six contests with Seattle coming against opponents with winning records. "Were not looking too far ahead," Reddick said. "I dont think were going to worry about who were tied with right now. All that matters is when that last game of the year comes along, where were at at that point." The As won their eighth in a row against the Red Sox to match their longest winning streak in the rivalry since the Philadelphia As did so May 2-28, 1932. The 8-1 record against Boston also set an Oakland single-season mark, topping the previous 9-3 by the 1971 and 88 teams and an 18-3 mark by the 1928 squad. Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-4) had another rough day in the right-handers second straight short start at the Oakland Coliseum. On July 2, Dice-K allowed five runs in one-plus inning while dealing with a stiff neck. This time, he was tagged for a season-high six runs and seven hits in 3 2-3 innings. He struck out four and walked four in his second-shortest outing after that previous start here. "We dont have the firepower to keep climbing out of big holes early," Red Sox skipper Bobby Valentine said. "Its a tough way to make a living." Drew, acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Aug. 20, also hit an RBI single in the third and an eighth-inning double for his first three-hit game for Oakland. Coco Crisp walked twice, scored two runs and stole his 31st base. The As outscored the Red Sox 33-5 in the series and hit nine home runs -- five of those in Friday nights 20-2 rout, two Saturday and two more Sunday. That after hitting four in the series finale at Cleveland on Thursday. Oakland has outscored opponents 72-22 during the winning streak. Anderson allowed one run on five hits in six innings, struck out four and walked one in another impressive day since returning from his injury -- even if he raised his ERA from 0.64 to 0.90. Anderson, who improved to 5-2 in eight career starts against the Red Sox, was given an extra day because the schedule worked out to do so and Melvin wants to be especially cautious with the left-hander after all the time he missed. He faced two over the minimum through five innings and was done after running into trouble in the sixth, when he got a big save from his defence. After Dustin Pedroia reached on an infield single in the sixth inning that was stopped from going for extra bases by diving third baseman Josh Donaldson, Cody Ross hit an RBI single. Scott Podsednik tried to score from second but left fielder Cespedes grabbed Ross one-hopper and fired home to catcher Derek Norris to save a second run. Mauro Gomez hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth for the Red Sox. Boston dropped its sixth straight and remained winless on this West Coast swing, which finishes with a three-game series at Seattle beginning Monday. "Its unacceptable," Ross said. Pedroia extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a first-inning single. "Were not playing good baseball by any means," Pedroia said. "Were really not doing anything well." NOTES: Oakland lost at Fenway Park on April 30, then won the next eight meetings with the Red Sox this year. ... Dice-K threw 97 pitches during his short outing. ... Red Sox CF Jacoby Ellsbury got a scheduled day off. ... Oakland RHP reliever Andrew Carignan, who had Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery June 19, said he will begin throwing with a sock Oct. 7 as part of his rehab, then likely a regular program in November. He plans to spend the off-season in Arizona instead of his home state of Connecticut. ... Boston recalled INF Ivan DeJesus Jr. -- another player from the Dodgers trade -- from Triple-A Pawtucket. ... The As raised $53,600 for breast cancer education and research through their annual breast cancer awareness day. ... Lefty Tommy Milone (11-9) pitches Monday for the As against Angels LHP C.J. Cheap Beats By Dre UK .Y. -- An influx of youth in the NFL draft and an expensive contract combined to make veteran cornerback Drayton Florence the odd man out with the Buffalo Bills.ST. JOHNS, N.L. -- Two new players in the St. Johns IceCaps lineup werent enough to slow down the Springfield Falcons. Cam Atkinson had two goals and two assists Friday as the Falcons defeated the IceCaps 5-3 in American Hockey League action. Kael Mouillierat and Shawn Weller made their season debuts for St. Johns. Weller, however, is a familiar face as he suited up for the IceCaps in 41 games last season. "It feels good to be back, but I wish we could have won the game tonight," said Weller. "I felt alright, but its a lot faster than the (ECHL) but a couple games, a little bit of adjustment, it felt pretty good." Springfield entered the game with a dominant 6-1-1 record on the road, which was a cause for concern for a St. Johns team that has split every home series this season, going 6-5-1. Weller says the chemistry with his teammates should come quickly. "I know a lot of the guys from last year," he said. "So Im just trying to do what I can: get pucks deep, get to the front of the net." Jonathan Audy-Marchessault had a goal and an assist while Ryan Craig and Nick Drazenovic scored for Springfield (13-4-4). Dalton Prout added two asssists.dddddddddddd The IceCaps (11-11-1) had goals from Mouillierat, Kevin Clark and Ray Sawada. St. Johns rallied back to tie the game at 3-3 in the third, but could not hold on to push the game to overtime. Sawada scored the tying-goal on a breakaway at 13:31. "It was a great pass by (Zach Redmond), and I was lucky enough that I could get some separation from the D. I celebrated pretty hard, I was pretty excited. It made it 3-3 and gave us a chance, but unfortunately some bounces didnt go our way and we had some let-downs in our own zone." The IceCaps went 0 for 6 on the power play, while Springfield was 1 for 4. St. Johns head coach Keith McCambridge liked what he saw on the power play, despite the lack of scoring. "That one unit has, the last couple games, generated a ton of scoring chances for us. Redmond hit a post in the second, we hit three posts in the third with that unit, theyre doing everything that were asking them to do on those units." McCambridge does not plan on making any line-up changes for tomorrows rematch with the Falcons. "Well go with the same line-up, I really liked our push-back in the third period." ' ' '

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren shot
It appears that theres another team in the Roberto Luongo sweepstakes. According to Adrian Dater of the Denver Post, hockey analyst and former NHL player Enrico Ciccone of TVA Sports, and confirmed by TSNs James Duthie on Twitter, the Philadelphia Flyers are interested in acquiring the services of the veteran goaltender. Duthie tweeted that the Flyers have inquired about the Canucks goalie, and are in a position where they could buy out current netminder Ilya Bryzgalov in June. On Thursday, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren shot down the rumours. "That made me chuckle," Holmgren told the Daily News. "Its safe to say those rumours arent true. They have no basis or merit." Trade rumours surrounding Luongo have been front and centre with this weeks announcement of a new CBA for the NHL and its players. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers have been the two teams tied most closely to potentially acquiring Luongo. Luongo fell out of favour in Vancouver when he was replaced by Cory Schneider for the last three games of the Canucks first-round series loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Last May, the 33-year-old told reporters he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause if Canucks general manager Mike Gillis asked him to. John Tavares Authentic Jersey .C. Mark Streit Jersey . -- Winter X Games spokesman Danny Chi says freestyle skier Justin Dorey partially dislocated his left shoulder in a spill during the mens ski superpipe final. NEW YORK -- Through all the drama surrounding the New York Yankees this year -- the lineup changes, injuries and off-field issues -- Joe Girardi has had one constant: Robinson Cano. And the smooth-swinging second baseman has not let his manager down. Cano gave the Yankees the lead for the second straight game against Toronto, this time hitting a two-run double in the seventh inning to exceed 100 RBIs for the second consecutive season, and New York rallied to beat the Blue Jays 6-4 on Saturday for its sixth win in seven games. "This kid loves to play the game, loves pressure moments," Girardi said. "Its a pleasure to pencil his name in there every day. Its real easy." Cano lined a 2-2 pitch from reliever Casey Janssen to the wall in centre field to score Curtis Granderson and Alex Rodriguez, back in the lineup after missing a week with a sprained left thumb. A .309 career hitter, Cano was motivated by the walk to Rodriguez. "Every time I see they walk a guy in front of me, that pumps me up," Cano said, "and I say, Come on, now is a situation where youve got to show them theyve got to pitch to the guy in front of you." Ricky Romero (13-10) was cruising along after giving up a two-run homer to Francisco Cervelli and an RBI single to Eduardo Nunez in the third until he hit Granderson in the back with a curveball with one out in the seventh and walked Rodriguez. After Canos hit, Nick Swisher ended Janssens scoreless streak at 16 2-3 innings with an RBI single, making it 6-4. Cano had the tiebreaking hit in Friday nights 3-2 win, a single in the fifth. He has 101 RBIs this season. "Hes a good hitter. (I) didnt have to give in 2-2 but definitely wanted to throw an aggressive pitch and he hit it," Janssen said. "It was a cutter. A little bit flatter than I wanted it." The Yankees improved to a major league-best 36-9 in day games and ended Romeros winning streak at six straight decisions. His last loss came against New York on July 16. "I thought I did a pretty good job of battling," Romero said. Rodriguez returned with a taped left thumb after missing six games. With Derek Jeter getting a day off after a night game and Mark Teixeira out for a second straight game because of a sore knee, A-Rod batted third for the first time since 2008. He went 1 for 3, striking out in the fifth after getting ahead in the count 3-0, and walked. Boone Logan (5-2) relieved Bartolo Colon with one out in the seventh and got two outs for the victory. David Robertson tossed a perfect eighth. With Mariano Rivera and Rafael Soriano unavailable after each pitched two straight nights, Robertson gave up a hit in thhe ninth before finishing his first two-inning outing in more than a year for his first save this season and third of his career.dddddddddddd Robertson would love to be a closer, but knows it wont happen soon. "I dont have to worry about it. Weve got 42 here," Robertson said, referring to Rivera, who is four saves away from 600. Toronto injury replacement Dewayne Wise tripled in his first at-bat after entering the game for Eric Thames, who left because of dizziness after striking out looking in the first. Wise hit his first homer of the season in the fifth, a tiebreaking shot. Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar also left because of an injury, pulling out before the bottom of the fifth with a jammed left wrist. He said X-rays were negative but he was sore and wouldnt play Sunday. Adam Lind connected off Colon and Jose Bautista drove in a run for the fourth straight game for Toronto, which built a 4-3 lead against Colon in the fifth. Colon came in 6-1 with 1.88 earned-run average in eight day starts, but he struggled at times in his 6 1-3 innings, giving up four runs and seven hits. He struck out seven and walked one, throwing a season-high 107 pitches. Colon started off well enough in the brilliant sunshine, striking out the side -- two looking with nasty movement on his fastball and a sharp breaking pitch. The second inning was another story. Lind led off with his 24th home run, Edwin Encarnacion and Kelly Johnson each had a single and Encarnacion advanced to third on Brett Lawries fielders choice. J.P. Arencibia gave Toronto a 2-0 lead with a sacrifice fly. The Yankees scored three times with two outs in the bottom half. Nunez laced an RBI single and Cervelli followed with a two-run homer. He crossed the plate without the hand clap that upset pitcher John Lackey on Tuesday night in Boston and led to a bench-clearing staredown two innings later. The Blue Jays got a run right back when Wise tripled into the right-field corner and scored on Bautistas single. Colon struck out his last batter of the third and fanned the side in the fourth. Wise homered into the Yankees bullpen in right-centre with one out in the fifth for a 4-3 lead. NOTES: Teixeira said he was feeling better and should return to the lineup Sunday. ... Blue Jays 3B coach Brian Butterfield was ejected for arguing balls and strikes after Johnson struck out to end the third inning. ... Acting manager Don Wakamatsu said Bautista was sore after fouling ball off his leg Friday night and the slugging RF will probably DH on Sunday. 2012 Major League Baseball season officially
The Toronto Maple Leafs slide out of a playoff position has cost head coach Ron Wilson his job. Cheap Beats By Dre UK . The club relieved Wilson of his duties on Friday evening after nearly four seasons in Toronto. Taking over for Wilson will be former Anaheim Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. The Leafs, who only have one win in their last 11 games, have fallen out of a playoff spot, and currently sit in 12th place in the Eastern Conference. "This was not an easy decision for me to make," general manager Brian Burke said in a statement. "I want to thank Ron for all of his hard work and dedication to our organization over the past four seasons." The move comes just a few months after Wilson was given a one-year contract extension in late December. Carlyle, who has signed a contract with the team for three years after this season, has a history with Burke, as the two were together during the Ducks Stanley Cup title in 2007. Carlyle was replaced by Bruce Boudreau as head coach of the Ducks last December after the team opened the season with a 7-13-4 record. "Hes not a sensitive guy and hes not going to hug you after you come off the ice after a bad shift," NHL on TSN analyst Keith Jones said on Friday. "This is a tough, hard-nosed hockey coach that knows how to win." "All the things that Brian Burke wanted from a hockey club when he came and talked about what he wanted to do with the Maple Leafs, thats the way Randy Carlyles teams play." former Carolina Hurricanes and Maple Leafs coach Paul Maurice said on the NHL on TSN. "You saw it in Anaheim, very physical." "They played a mean game, a hard game." NHL on NBC studio analyst Jeremy Roenick was on the Team 1040 Radio in Vancouver and said that he was surprised by the change. The former NHLer also stated that he felt things were going to get tougher for the current Leafs. "All those players in the Maple Leafs locker room are going to wish they played harder and more correctly for Ron Wilson," Roenick said. Chants of "Fire Wilson!" echoed through Air Canada Centre when the Maple Leafs fell 5-3 to the Florida Panthers on (Tuesday) Feb. 28. The game marked Wilsons 1,400th career NHL game coached, tying him with Pat Quinn for fourth on the all-time list. Hired in 2008, Wilson was unable to guide the Maple Leafs to the playoffs during his tenure. The team currently owns the NHLs second-longest playoff drought at seven years. Wilson recorded a 34-35-13 mark in his first season as head coach with the Maple Leafs, the club finishing 12th in the Eastern Conference. The following year, the team posted a 30-38-14 record and finished last in the Conference. Last season, Wilson had his first winning season with the Maple Leafs, going 37-34-11, which was good enough for 10th in the Conference. Through 64 games this season, the Maple Leafs have 65 points and a 29-28-7 record. Wilson leaves the Toronto with a 130-135-45 record overall with the Leafs. Carlyle becomes the 16th man to have both played for the Maple Leafs and then taken on the reins as the teams coach. The Maple Leafs also announced that assistant coach Rob Zettler has been reassigned to other duties within the organization. Beats By Dre For Sale . The Edmonton second stringer went in for starter Kerry Joseph with his team trailing 20-4 to start the fourth quarter and came within a missed two-point convert of forcing overtime as the Montreal Alouettes prevailed 27-25 over the Eskimos on Sunday afternoon. Cheap Beats By Dre . Three years later, he finally got to do it again in the major leagues. Rainer Salzgeber, the racing director of Vonns equipment supplier Head, told The Associated Press that the four-time overall winner arrived in Austria on Wednesday and began light training on Thursday. Beats By Dre UK . The 2012 Major League Baseball season officially kicks off in just five days when the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics square off in Japan. Beats By Dre . Two errors later, the Fish trailed 7-4. And thats the way it ended at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in K.C. as Winnipeg battled back from a 3-0 deficit after the sixth to score a run in the seventh and three in the eighth, but a throwing error by third baseman Amos Ramon and then another by pitcher Griffin Bailey set up a four-run eighth inning for the T-Bones and sent Winnipeg back to the hotel with a 7-4 loss and yet another squandered lead late in a game.LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Making game-winning shots in the final seconds is one reason the Los Angeles Clippers brought Chris Paul to town. He came up big with a tenth of a second left against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. Pauls running jumper against Tony Allens defence gave the Clippers a 93-91 victory and a 2-0 lead in their first-round playoff series. "Tony played as good as defence as you can," Paul said. "I looked up at the clock and thought I better get a shot off." Both teams stayed on the court while the referees reviewed the play. It was declared good, leaving Memphis a tick of the clock to inbound the ball but not enough to get off a final shot. "It hurts," said Mike Conley, who scored a playoff-career high 28 points for Memphis. "We wanted to come here and steal one." Paul finished with 24 points and nine assists, Blake Griffin added 21 points and eight rebounds and Jamal Crawford scored 15 points on the day he finished second to J.R. Smith of the Knicks for the leagues Sixth Man of the Year award. "We were on him, the kid made a tough shot," Memphis coach Lionel Hollins said of Paul. "Hes a great player and he made a big shot." Paul carried the Clippers in the final 3:46, scoring eight straight points, including a basket that gave them a 91-89 lead with 1:20 to play. "The way Conley was blowing by me at the other end, the least I could do was make a couple shots," Paul said. Conley led the Grizzlies fourth-quarter charge that came up just short. He had 10 points in the period, while Darrell Arthur scored five straight when Randolph was on the bench to pull Memphis into an 89-all tie. Conley found Marc Gasol alone in the paint and the big man dunked to tie the game 91-all with 13 seconds left. Griffin won a hard-fought jump ball, but Paul missed a 3-pointer. He redeemed himself and set off a raucous reaction — with longtime Clippers fan Billy Crystal pumping both arms in the air — when he drove the right baseline against Allen and banked in the game-winner. "I was supposed to send him back to the left. He got right and thats what he does in close games," Allenn said.dddddddddddd "I definitely let my team down by not sending him back to his weak hand. "The guy made an amazing shot and all you can do is just deal with the results." Gasol added 17 points, Allen had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Zach Randolph had 13 points while racking up five fouls for the second straight game. Game 3 is Thursday in Memphis. The Clippers bench started the fourth quarter and ran off eight straight points for the games first double-digit lead, 81-71. Eric Bledsoe and Matt Barnes had four points each. Conley answered with five straight points to close the Grizzlies within seven points. Griffin and Paul joined the second unit, and Griffin scored on a driving dunk for an 85-76 lead. The Clippers returned to their high-flying ways after Lob City managed just one dunk in the series opener. "My teammates got me open shots and easy looks and that gets me going," Griffin said. "We kept moving the ball." The Clippers led by seven points early in the third before the game turned into a back-and-forth affair. Memphis briefly regained a one-point lead and then tied it 59-all on Arthurs dunk before Paul scored six of the Clippers final 13 points to send them into the fourth leading 75-71. Neither team led by more than eight points in the first half, with the Clippers ahead 50-44 at halftime. The Grizzlies led most of the first quarter before the Clippers tied it late on a 3-pointer from the right corner by Crawford. Los Angeles controlled the second quarter, when Crawford got hot.
